Re [~drankye]:  Using on or off heap memory is an orthogonal issue to actually 
reducing it. Its probably better to keep looking at it in 
[HDFS-6709|https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-6709] but stick here to 
discussion around reduction of memory.
