John,

I have a Dell PC with firewire and capture card.  There is a popular software and HD capture card that you can get from a few vendors that can record OTA HDTV material, but not through TWC, as TWC encrypt their QAM signal, so there is no way your PC can record it.  I've tried.  Don't waste your time.

What you can do is get a D-VHS recorder like the JVC 40K or 30K.  You will be able to record with a 3250HD with firewire.  The channels that are NOW recordable in glorious HD is HBO (701), SHO (703), TNT (710), InHD1 (721), and InHD2 (722).

Quick question, I am new to this, so pardon my ignorance.  I am
getting an HTPC from Dell in a week that has firewire.  I was going to
upgrade my TWC to HD, I assume I want to ask for firewire capabiilty
so I get the 3250HD.  How does the recording work exactly?  Does the
3250 act as a PVR and then I copy the files to my PC through the
firewire?  Or can I control the 3250HD through my PC and tell it what
to record, I am not too familiar with firewire.

TIA
