I agree with Joan. With the application of non-roman references in authority
records on the horizon, it is not practicable to consider standardizing our
current (but likely-soon-to-be-phased-out) approach to parallel fields in bib
records.

The awkwardness of changing keyboards and text direction made adding dates to
headings undesirable for LC in RLIN Terminal for Windows days. It's much
easier to achieve good-looking results in RLIN21. However, I for one would not
be pleased to suddenly be "required" to add something to headings that folks
have gotten along without in my cataloging for some 23 years.

Let's hope the subject becomes moot when nonroman references are added to
authority records, not shoehorned into parallel fields in bib records.

As OCLC is beginning with implementation of Hebrew records - I am getting
to see more practices by other libraries as they deal with Hebrew headings.

In one case I saw LC's record (LCCN 2005352261) with a romanized heading
for Kadish, Alon, 1950- (NAR n 82033529) but the parallel Hebrew script
heading does not have the birth date attached.

Could we agree that if there is a date in the romanized heading - we will
apply it also to the Hebrew heading?
