Hi Heidi, I’m by no means a rare book cataloger but I have taken two Rare Book School classes on cataloging. I checked the Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Books) 4D2.2 for some guidance. It wasn’t real helpful. I personally wouldn’t add a parallel Romanized field for the 500. It’ll be interesting to hear what our rare book colleagues say.

May I ask, in the 264 – if all we have is the chronogram – do we use only the Gregorian date in both the 264 and its 880 field? For the work that I am currently working on I have done it in the following manner: 500 Date of publication derived from chronogram: ע’ל’ מ’ש’פ’ט’ו’ ישב 500 Date of publication derived from chronogram: ʻA.l' m'i'sh'p'a'ṭo yeshev I would greatly appreciate any feedback from experienced rare book catalogers.
