Yes, alas, Heka pre-allocates pools of messages.
We set max_message_size to 1MB and at startup heka consumes around 2.5GB
of RAM. This seems pretty high for us.
If you really need your messages to be that big you can lower total memory
usage by setting the global `poolsize` config setting to something lower than
the default of 100. You'll also want to lower the plugin_chansize. Try
`poolsize = 40` and `plugin_chansize = 10` and see how that works out for you.
