Hey there!

The primary motivating factor behind me wanting to get the i810
framebuffer driver running under HelenOS is to test how well such an
arrangement, with a userspace graphical driver, would work.  I don't
really intend on getting it merged into master, because of licensing
issues and the potential for it to be a black box, but I do think that
it could be useful to test whether we have the mechanisms in place to
support such drivers at all.  Jirka told me that the other framebuffer
drivers are in a rather experimental state.

And as for "getting contemporary hardware to work"...  That isn't really
my field of interest, I enjoy messing around with old machines.

Kind regards
Marek Benc

Hello and thanks for the update. Has rpi support advanced beyond the Pi1 as
documented herehttp://www.helenos.org/wiki/RaspberryPi?

Re Intel 810 driver, would be utterly amazed if it ever found more than one
user. No wish at all here to be discouraging but would effort not be better
spent on contemporary hardware support?

For the 100% committed though there may be some some suitable code in the
FreeBSD/Haiku stacks ?

Cheers,

Jerry.

=====================================
Attendees:
    - Jiri Svoboda
    - Marek Benc (DusXMT)

Scribe: Jiri Svoboda

Round table
-----------
Jiri Svoboda
    - Finished text entry scrolling
    - Fix bug with asprintf() not correctly printing empty string
    - addr48_t restoration (takeaway: document your design decisions in code!)
    - Added Contributing section to README with link to Wiki and guide new
contributors to discuss their ideas on ML
(also added the same to the Wiki)
    - fix header guards libdevice/libinet
    - created enhancement requests for file manager and new shell
    - Pull requests:
      - deprecate atomic_t / ghostmanbsd - merged
      - Configure NS16550 transmission format settings / DusXMT - merged
      - performance boost on raspberry pi / maurizio-lombardi - merged
      - head, grep - closed with explanation

Marek Benc (DusXMT)
    - Configure NS16550 transmission format settings (first contribution)
    - Would like to write HelenOS driver for Intel 810 integrated graphics
(note: introduced 1999) to allow HelenOS to run in graphics mode on his old PC
which lacks VBE support
    - Plan: port Linux Fbdev driver (GPL)
    - JSv: We prefer drivers written from scratch / BSD
    - DusXMT: I could write it, but not integrate
    - JSv: That would be a shame. Perhaps the ported driver could be used as a
stepping stone to writing a brand new driver
