I don't think this is the simplest approach.  I really meant to
"rewrite" print.c to output XML.


Yes, I meant to rewrite print.c too. But I did not understand why I
have to implement any grammar productions for for this. All output is
generated from internal data structures and there is nothing to be
'parsed' inorder to generate this output.
