Don't let go!  It's not unreasonable to expect to manage cfengine
processes like other processes, whatever the OS (as opposed to using
rc.local, for example).  I think it would be great if cfservd and cfenvd
'played nice' and put pid's in /var/run, on approriate OS's, if that's
not a posixly kind of thing to do everywhere.   Init scripts sometimes
get around the lack of a pid by calling 'pidof'.  Shouldn't need to
write your own init script though.  Just ask, either Google, or here.
