I cannot reproduce this here. Can you show a reproducible recipe starting from "emacs -Q"? Does this happen for any 2 buffers, or just for some? When this happens, what do you see in the buffer *ediff-diff*? The file names you show above are identical. Is this a typo, or do you indeed compare a file to itself?
