  You don't get it. As written in the AUCTeX manual,
  ``AUCTeX is a comprehensive customizable integrated environment for
    writing input files for TeX/LaTeX/ConTeXt using GNU Emacs.''
  that's to say, some .el files ;-)

  while LaTeX is ``a high-quality typesetting system with features
  designed for the production of technical and scientific
  documentation''.
  That's to say, binary files to `compile' .tex files.

  You should google for that to get further infos.
