Nope, when I write 'medium', I mean 'medium' and not 'near to medium'. We right now know that there are issues that can only be fixed with a protocol change, but (1) work hasn't started on those, and (2) we don't know when we might have the capacity or funding or energy to get stated in earnest. So 'near future' is unlikely to be correct by any definition. And we will indeed post information about the impending change significantly ahead of making releases with it.
