I don't believe that the debug symbols in Debian packages have
absolute pathnames. Just put the dir command in your .gdbinit file
(section 2.1.3 of the gdb manual).

Also, there's no need to apt-get sources with root privileges, by the
way, but I do suppose there's no harm in putting them in system-wide
locations.
