Hi,

I think the page you are referercing is meant for developpers or people who 
want to contribute to guix. It is part of the "Contributing" section after all.

If you go back a few chapters, you'll find the information you need: 
<https://guix.gnu.org/manual/devel/en/html_node/Building-from-Git.html> the 
first command will get you a copy of the latest version of the sources.

I don't think learning about the source tree structure is valuable unless you 
want to contribute. If you want to contribute, then you should start from the 
latest version, not the version that's currently installed on your system. 
Also, the path you found is valid for any guix installation, not just on the 
Guix System, except after a fresh install. You need to run guix pull first for 
that directory to appear. And it's a read-only location.
