Hello, could  you check that you have a /home/gast directory owned by gast?

this seems the problem, thanks

it is not owned by "gast"
see screenshot (sorry it is in German, but you will understand it)

Besitzer/owner: 1001 - user #1001

How can I change that?

thanks

Hi,

I gave up the Samba configuration, because I don´t need that at the moment.

I tried to change the password for the second user "gast" with

sudo passwd gast

and it seemed to be ok.

but it is impossible to log into that user.
It seems that it doesn´t recognise the password.

Is there an option in Guix
to find out what the password looks like,
so that I can see it on the screen displayed?

If not, how can I proceed?

thanks

Hi Guix,

I changed the name of the second user: "Gast" in my config.scm
and now after updating system config.scm
this second user is not shown up in the beginning.
I can´t log into it.

My first user: "gfp" is shown up
and underneath it says: "not shown"
If I enter into that it asks me for the user
I said "Gast"
then it asks me for the password
but it does not recognise my password,
which I established earlier.

You’re mixing declarative (your operating-system configuration) and
stateful (your password set with `passwd' in a shell).  When you changed
the declarative configuration, it destroyed your existing user and
created a new one.  Since there’s no password in the declarative
configuration, it didn’t set one.  You need to set the password again.

I am still confused by the mentions of Samba, "The Samba Public User,"
etc.  Samba has no bearing on your goal or problems, as you have stated
them.

thanks

how can I add a password to "gast" if I can´t log into that account?

Gottfried
As root, use “passwd gast”.
