Hello,

I will start out this email by saying I am aware that bug reports have
moved to Codeberg. However, I do not seem to be able to make an account on
it despite waiting a day for account confirmation so I am hoping that this
email is perhaps still monitored.

As far as I can tell, there is currently no possible install path for the
GNU Guix System (to clarify I am talking about the full operating system,
not just the package manager), at least on my laptop. I spent the entire
afternoon trying to install the operating system with no success and there
are always some kind of errors. I have tried both the "Standard" and
"Latest" ISOs.

I am using a Lenovo X280 with 16 GB of RAM

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8350U (8) @ 3.60 GHz
GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620 @ 1.10 GHz [Integrated]

I have tried both the Graphical install method and the install using the
shell based process with both the Standard and Latest ISOs and sadly
nothing is working.

I have working ethernet so the issue is not missing wifi drivers.

When using the graphical install, it just fails after a long time
installing packages.

In the graphical installer, the final system installation step fails after
the package installation phase. One of the errors shown was:

Command "guix" "system" "init" "--fallback" "/mnt/etc/config.scm" "/mnt"
exited with value 1

I also saw this error:

dynamic linker name not known for this system "x86_64-linux"

In another failed attempt, I also saw:

guix system: while setting up the child process: in phase mountIntoChroot:
getting attributes of path '/gnu/store/...-grep-3.11': No such file or
directory

When using the command line method it just hangs here forever:

shepherd: Service user-homes has been started.
shepherd: Service guix-ownership has been started.
shepherd: Service guix-daemon has been started

For additional context, in the graphical installer I selected GNOME as the
desktop environment, used UEFI with /boot/efi, and configured an encrypted
root partition. I also tried it with no encryption which also didn't work.

If it is helpful, I have photos of the installer screens and the exact
error messages.

It seems to be a big issue that a fresh installed of the operating system
is not possible currently using either of the ISOs on the official website.

Thank you in advance.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Steven O. Hansen
