While I am delighted by the news, I havent yet been able to reconcile
this with France's aggressive state behaviour towards GrapheneOS. Phone
users in France should not be treated as chattels.
Though I cant comment on the quality of journalism in the below article,
issues regarding encryption and backdoors are of import - let alone with
regards to wider institutional behaviours:

I recall failures (over a decade ago) involving intermediate certificate
authority (CA) linked to the French certificate authority, ANSSI. I
would encourage strong diligence using such an operating system - lest
such human errors surface again.
In any case, I wish this initiative well and hope it provides insights
and confidence for commensurate European technologies.
As a minimum, it should counter Microsoft's incumbency - particularly
concerning its ability to be compelled to send local customer data to
the USA Government (as expressed (on oath) with statements to the French
senate):
