The Hurd uses libio, which indeed isn't thread safe. When we switch to stdio
this should not be a problem anymore.

kbd requires streamdev at least (it is not a block device). Look at Okuji's
streamdev (on alpha.gnu.org).
(A more low level approach to keyboard scanning can be found in colortext,
IIRC).
