Bah, I should be clearer (lest the voice of Roland lart me for not explaning myself yet again). Do not edit the /lib/libc.so.0.3 in the GNU Hurd partition. Make sure you only edit the cached copy. I also have never used `make-cross', but instead have just followed the gcc installation instructions for building a cross compiler.
