Hi all,

I've successfully installed a GNU/Hurd system using Marcus' latest tarball. The problem now is that I can't access the GNU or Debian ftp sites to download packages.

I had this problem with my previous installation (based on the J2 CDs). Also, I know my hardware works with GNU/Hurd, since another all networking worked on another old installation of mine (which was based on an older tarball).

The problem is not specific to the GNU/Debian ftp sites. I can use links to view a web page on my local network, but links complains "Unknown Error" if I attempt to access a non-local site, such as www.gnu.org.

I am able to connect with these sites without difficulty; for example, using typing "ping alpha.gnu.org" works without any problems.

I'm including the output of "apt-get update" (apt-errors.txt), my attempt to access a few ftp sites using the ftp client (ftp-client.txt), and the result of pinging alpha.gnu.org (pinging2.txt). Basically, I keep getting "Connection reset by peer" and "Service not available, remote server has closed connection" errors. =(

I've manually downloaded the .debs to upgrade to the latest version of libc and the Hurd, in case my troubles were due to some problem in the Hurd servers that has been fixed since the tarball was made. This didn't help.

Also, my network is configured using the DHCP workaround described in the GNU/Hurd User's Guide (http://seinfeld.arrowstreet.com/docs/documentation/using_gnuhurd.html).

If anyone knows of any solution to this problem, or can suggest any test I can perform to track the source of the problem down or further information that I should provide, I'd greatly appreciate it. =)

Thanks.

P.S. The console client is great. Nothing like switching terminals to kill runaway processes (the reboot button just doesn't cut it!).
