GNU make

I believe I need this utility for installing a PostgreSQL database in my
profile space on a UNIX network at school.

I don't know if you are the people to ask, but i've been hunting around
the web.  do I just download the source, compile it, and voila!  I have
gmake to use???

any reference to help would be appreciated..
