You can't. Well, you _could_; you'd need to first use this: .SUFFIXES: to get rid of the suffix rules, then figure out what pattern rules are left and remove them by creating empty rules for them (see the GNU make manual for information on canceling pattern rules). -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul D.
