I've run across a rule of the form shown in the subject line and do
not recognize it as any GNU make feature I've ever seen, nor can I
find it in the manual. Here's a simplified version of the real rule,
which seems to work just fine:
$(TARGETS) : %/$(PACKAGE): subdir/%/$(TGT) $(EXTRA_FILES)
<shell code>
It's the multiple colons that throw me. Can someone point to the
appropriate spot in TFM? This is make 3.81 on a Mac.
