For me it looks like you don't get the paradigm of smalltalk. Unlike C, Smalltalk has a certain paradigm to program in. For your example, you should maybe first think about at what kind of objects you want to measure the temperature. And then you create a versatile object with temperature as property or feature. And then this object can answer it's temperature to you on the screen, in Fahrenheit or Celsius. For a good joke the private temperature could be in kelvin. :-) HTH
