I fixed egrep, and finally the lightbulb went off: I am running under cygwin, but using a windows tex distribution: miktex. texi2dvi is invoking miktex's pdftex using the posix path, but miktex has no clue as to what the /home/lisp... path is. What it needs is a windows path. Now, all is not lost, because cygwin has a utility cygpath that can convert from a unix-like path to a full windows path. Do you have any idea where in texi2dvi I should perform this conversion? (I think it should happen on the command line that calls the tex executable.) Thanks, Mirko
