As I write this, Gray is struggling to survive. Please help!

Help us save Gray and protect other elephants.

Dear Rita,

"Gray" the elephant is in a fight for his life.

He was injured by a speeding train as he was crossing the tracks in Northeast
India. Gray staggered off the tracks and into the forest near a wildlife
sanctuary. Workers in the sanctuary reported hearing his cries trumpeting
through the woods in the early morning hours.

The next morning Gray was found sitting alone hunched over and in pain. Members
of the Forest Dept called IFAW's Wildlife Rescue Center and our veterinarian
rushed to the scene with a team of rescuers.

The vets were eventually able to tranquilize Gray, and they then began treating
his wounds to the chest, shoulder region, front left leg, and knee joints. They
cleaned his deep open wounds, and gave him vitamins and painkillers.

As I write, the veterinary team is going back to the forest today to check on
him and give him further treatment.

Will you help us save Gray and help us protect other elephants from tragedies
like this?

Sadly, Gray is only one of hundreds of elephants who have been hit by trains in
India.

Just last fall, a horrific accident occurred when five adult elephants huddled
together to protect two baby elephants who had gotten stuck in the tracks
during a night crossing. A speeding train crushed and killed all seven
elephants.

Your donation will provide lifesaving care for innocent animals like Gray, help
create safe passages for elephants in India, and provide relief for suffering
animals.

IFAW is working with our partners at Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to prevent
these tragedies through our Safe Passages for Elephants program - the
identification of a network of "corridors" that elephants could use to move
through different areas. IFAW is working to help secure these areas so that the
elephants can pass through safely.

Of course, Gray's survival is our first concern at this time. Our veterinarian,
Dr. Abhijit Bhawal, and his team are working to save him. And now we need your
help.

Please donate today to save Gray, to prevent future deadly collisions, and to
help protect innocent animals from such terrible suffering.

Your gift can help save Gray's life, and help stop the horrific accidents like
the one that injured him and killed the seven elephants last autumn.

Please open your heart to help Gray and to protect other elephants from this
grave danger.

Thank you,

Fred O'Regan
IFAW President

PS. Treating injured wild elephants is extremely dangerous, but our veterinary
team are trained and experienced experts. And, they are so committed to helping
these innocent giants. Please show your commitment to helping suffering animals
by giving today.

Worried about Donating online?
I used to be too ... so I made sure our online system is safe, secure, and
state-of-the-art. It also eliminates check-processing costs, so more money goes
directly to saving animals. But if you prefer to donate by phone or mail,
simply click here for address information.

NOTE: To make sure you continue to receive further emails from IFAW, please add
[email protected] to your email address book. If you use a spam filter program,
please assign this address a status of safe or trusted. If you have an AOL,
Hotmail, MSN or Yahoo email address, this is particularly important as we
receive many bounce backs from these email addresses.
