Hi and thanks for the invitation to join this group.

I've just planted my Basil crop (home gradener) and would like to
share a dead-easy recipe for mouth watering pesto sauce. Basil is
easy to grow and often the starter plants are under $1.00. And you
don't need a garden it can grow on an apartment terrace or by a sun-
blessed window sill.

Here's the recipe and good luck and good eating!

Pesto Sauce

If made in advance, place in tightly covered jars and refrigerate for
1 week or freeze for 1 month.

Makes about 1 cup (8 fl oz./250 ML)

2 cups (2 oz./60 g.) packed fresh Basil leaves
6 garlic cloves, peeled
½ teaspoon salt
¼ cup (1 oz./30 g.) pine nuts
½ cup (4 fl. oz./125 ml.) extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1/3 cup (1 ½ oz./45 g.) freshly grated Parmesan cheese

In the work bowl of a food processor or in a blender, combine the
basil and the garlic. Pulse until the Basil and Garlic are very
finely chopped.

Add the salt and pine nuts and pulse several times. With the motor
running, pour in the olive oil in a steady stream.

Transfer the mixture to a small bowl. Using a spatula, fold in the
butter and, when it has been incorporated smoothly, fold in the
Parmesan cheese. Set aside until ready to use.

Note: For a more robust garden flavor I use raw Pine nuts, which I
found at Trader Joe's, though this recipe is just grand if you use
Pine nuts from your grocer.

Thanks!
