I just confirmed a location here in New Hampshire that is willing to leave a hexayurt and/or pentayurt up over the winter for destructive testing. They have room & man power but no cash to set one up.
If anyone has the materials and/or cash, and would like to find out what a harsh New England Winter will do to a hexayurt, let me know. I think it would be interesting to see: 1. Just how much snow the structure will hold before it collapses. 2. The actual effect of extreme cold *and* wet weather on the tape. 3. Whether any other natural factors will come into play - winds, flying branches, ice storms, animals, etc. I have a hunch that the design might be stronger than we think, but with destructive testing of environmental factors we can get a better idea of real world limits. There is room there for a number of structures to be tested if someone wants to experiment with different materials as well.
