I have an H12 and I'm replacing my door panel this year with a better one. My previous one lacked a toe kick, and the door never closed right due to flexing, even with some thin plywood skinning in year 2. For year 3 I'm starting over on the door panel and using the Camp Danger, beveled edge, plywood skin design (1/2" this time), but with glue instead of bolts to bond the panel and plywood.
How big should I make my door? The original Hexayurt designers suggest that a good door is 24" wide, and about 12" from a wall edge. I'm thinking of putting the new door right in the middle of the panel. So about 24"from either edge. Is that a problem? The height, I think, comes down to the easy in/out vs. strength question. My old door was 42" tall, so if I stay with the same rough dimensions, but add a toe-kick, that gives me a 40" opening. Should be enough I think. What are some door sizing/positioning best practices?
