Huh ... I had a thought about sealed hexayurt H12 design that used a roof panel as the door.
It might float lower in the water (more kayak than canoe) but if it is sealed, you could weather more movement of the water and not float off as much? Or is that a bad idea, due to possibly flooding, and needing to bail, and other things in the stream of water moving faster? Not much of a boat person, sorry.
