For the new logging stuff I added something like:

Log log = LogFactory.getLog( 
  Type.class.getPackage().getName() 
);

Turns out that getPackage() is allowed to return null if the JVM can't
be bothered implementing it. And some (but not all) versions of the IBM
JVM do just that.

So there is a version of the IBM JVM for which Hibernate 1.2.1 will die
*instantly* with an NPE :( Not the version I tested on before releasing,
however!


The fix is to replace 

Type.class.getPackage().getName()

with

"cirrus.hibernate.type"
