OK, I have finished a merge from v21branch to v22branch. (Still got a couple of test suite changes to go.) And got the test failures fixed. So we can now move new development to v22branch. From now on, any changes applied to 2.1 should also be immediately applied to 2.2. Steve was suffering all kinds of pain trying to merge changes across so lets not do that anymore.
