Time to liberate America —Miranda Husain

January 30, 2005

What freedoms exactly does the Bush administration believe the terrorists
are attacking? The freedom of an administration to violate its own rule of
law? For an administration that has breached its own laws cannot be said to
afford its own people dignity and freedom from tyranny

“America’s belief in human dignity will guide our policies.”

Bush Declares Jihad, the American Way

Hassan Nafaa 2005/01/26

During his inauguration ceremony, President Bush delivered a speech that
was different from all the speeches of his predecessors. The former
presidents of the United States at their respective inauguration ceremonies
delivered speeches that outlined the internal and external political
program that they intend to implement during their four-year tenure. Bush
chose to deliver a speech on his behalf and on behalf of the
neo-conservatives, and it could be tacitly said that it foreshadowed the
declaration of war, or perhaps it could be said that it carried a 'Jihad
Manifesto' for the extreme right wing in America.

U.S. is changing for the worse

Watching America

by Brad Niblett

I had a unique experience growing up in Canada with a Canadian father and
American mother. This resulted in a somewhat conflicting personal identity,
as to be Canadian is typically defined as being "not American."

This election will change the world. But not in the way the Americans imagined

Robert Fisk in Baghdad

America has insisted on these elections - which will produce a largely Shia
parliament representing Iraq's largest religious community - because they
are supposed to provide an exit strategy for embattled US forces, but they
seem set to change the geopolitical map of the Arab world in ways the
Americans could never have imagined. For George Bush and Tony Blair this is
the law of unintended consequences writ large.

US-Made Election Schemes in Iraq and Palestine

by Amer Jubran 29 January 2005

"The US may have its election day on January 30, but it will not be enough
to change things in Iraq."

George Bush mentioned the word 'freedom' over 30 times in his inauguration
speech, which lasted for over twenty minutes. The timing of the speech came
after the Palestinian "elections" and before the Iraqi "elections." Bush
concluded his speech by saying, "Democracy is coming whether you are ready
or not."

Iraq and its resistance

by Stephen Gowans

The question of whether Iraqis have a right to resist the occupation of
their country by US-led forces is clear: they do. The question of whether
they have a right to resist occupation by any means is academic.

going to help the new government get its footing. "We're gonna bring
