Yes that is exact scenario, copying preview and not live. I expect CMS
editor to handle this situation better, so not only check for
publicationDate, but also for presence of document in live. Displaying
just based on publicationDate, is obviously not complete, signals that
document is published which isn't present in live at all. This kind of
issues is hard to debug, and if hippo would report this, e.g. just by
displaying document as not published, it would be enough to save a lot
of nerves.
Since the situation that you ended up with is not reproducible from
within the CMS, I (personally) don't think the CMS should check for it.
An administrator doing some action in the background, should consider
the possible consequences.
What can be done:
0] When copying copy both preview & www.
1] Run the publishall WDBP with plugin.1.configuration.onlypublished set
to true.
2] Run the propertiesdelete WDBP to remove the publicationDate property.
