If this is in the Cocoon host you can change the respective configiguration
elements in cocoon.xconf - either via your build system or manually as
documented quite widely.
You will need to put the Saxon jars in your lib directory and then you can
use XSLT 2.0

I don't have the details to hand but it is very straightforward (depending
on your build/deploy process) and the benefits oare tremendous.
