Akemi, here is an answer to your question about California histotech certification / licensure.
PA's have to be certified, but not licensed. There are no requirements for histotechs. ________________________________________ From: Simoes, Jennifer (CDPH-LGA) [mailto:jennifer.sim...@cdph.ca.gov] Sent: Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:41 AM To: Morken, Tim Subject: RE: Licensing Tim, Per our Laboratory Field Services Program, AB 2156 (Niello, Chapter 319, Statutes of 2006) was signed into law in 2006. This bill specified that a Pathologist's assistant had to be certified by a specified board (Business and Professions Code Section 1269.3). There is no requirement for a state license. The bill also indicated the duties that could be performed by a histologic technician and a histotechnologist, but again, no license is required. Please let me know if you need anything further. I don't know if the histotech's that have the answers were on vacation, but I sure would like any information. Below is the original e-mail: I need your assistance on a on-going question which has been kicked around since 2005. I tried to look this up in the Histonet Archives, but was unsuccessful. Perhaps, my key words were incorrect. Anyway, it was my understanding that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger put a mandate on all laboratory staff, including histologists, that they were required to be certified by 2011. It was further my understanding that un-certified histology staff were only going to be able to work as histology assistants. Could I get some clarification on this matter.
