I have come across this several times. Each time we grossed the placenta, but did not take specimens. Before they took it home I had to have them sign a release of information as well as paperwork acknowledging they understand that it is a bio-hazard. This same form is also worded to release the hospital of any blame in the event someone gets sick, or it surfaces after a big rain. Not sure if that helps but that is what my Pathologist has be doing. Good luck with this.
