According the one of our pathologist the above mentioned update clarified that CMS allows the billing of special stains performed on different blocks of the same Pathology specimen. Previously, it was understood that a special stain could only be billed once per specimen. Now it appears that a stain could be billed twice if performed on block 1 and block 3 of the same specimen. Has anyone else reached this conclusion?
