Christie,
The problem you are having might be more with the embedding. Puttting the
epithelium on edge can be real tricky. Lots of times you think it is on
edge when it is not. Try placing the skin with the epithelium on edge and
then rolling it with the forceps so that it is not slightly leaning over.
Make sure you have only a very thin layer of paraffin beneath it all along
the edge. You have to be very quick. Then when you look at the paraffin
block if you can't see the epithelium all along the edge melt it and
re-embed it. I know that takes time but better to do it over than not have
the epithelium.
