Since horse eyes are so large and dense, if possible the eye should be 
fenestrated to allow the fixative to penetrate the interior.  Injection is 
also and option.  Davidson's is the preferred fixative, as opposed to 
Bouin's, as it is fast penetrating and less hazardous.  After initial 
fixation with Davidson's (or modified Davidson's), place the eye in 70% 
alcohol overnight.  There is no need to place the eye in formalin after the 
Davidson's fixation.
