For needle core breast biopsies, we cut several unstained slides - 3 levels and 2 unstained serials at each level.
For vacuum assisted breast biopsies, which have much more tissue and many more blocks, we are finding that we are wasting a lot of slides cutting so many unstained. However, just yesterday, we had a case with 16 blocks, but two of them had DCIS with a question of microinvasion that would not have been confirmed without the serials for the IHC. So, our question is, how are you handling the vacuum assisted biopsies?
