In our situation the charcoal filters were not sufficient enough, we used xylene and it was not the tape but glass coverslipper. We tried it with just the carbon filters and it was not good enough.

I believe the filters have to be changed once per year. This would eliminate having to have external exhaust. We don't have any issues with fumes from our unit, but we also are using xylene substitute (SubX) inside the stainer, except for the last station before the slides go into the coverslipper. We use xylene in the last station of the stain line and xylene inside the coverslipper. Of course the only reason we are using xylene in these 2 stations is to activate the hydrocarbons in the tape coverslip film, as xylene substitute will not work for this. My question is , does the cover slip unit need an external exhaust. Please consider that the space the unit will be placed is small. Thank you in advance.
