Hi folks, just thought I'd update you all on the recent 2013 State of the Map Conference in Birmingham now the videos are being uploaded.
David Evans did a great OHM talk: http://lanyrd.com/2013/sotm/scphdh/ Video: starts around 2hrs 38mins : http://citizen.civico.net/openstreetmapfoundation/stateofthemap/1138 Susanna Annas did a talk on the Wikimaps project: http://lanyrd.com/2013/sotm/scphgd/ Video: http://citizen.civico.net/openstreetmapfoundation/stateofthemap/1138 3hrs 54mins There were also some other presentations (I missed these) which had some historical content, including one about finding a lost river in Japan. If you came across other highlights do share! We had a very short shared BoF of wikimaps and OHM which was attended by mainly interested and curious mappers. I filled in folks about OHM project and Susanna about wikimaps, but I don't think there was much to report, more a case of chatting with folks who wanted to know more. During the Code Day following the main conference we were able to do some brainstorming, and I helped guide some folks with the rectification of out of copyright Irish town lands maps which are going up on mapwarper.net. In general, for me the theme of the conference is increasing diversity and widening audiences, and I believe that OHM taps into interested communities of historians, genealogists etc. Cheers, and hope to catch up at foss4g if folks are coming! Tim
