The Helsinki one from last June was based on a readily opened file, that is linked to this post http://www.hri.fi/fi/sovellukset/helsinki-by-age/
The buildings file was an effort by the city of Helsinki, cleaning and combining different datasets. I had used it earlier for georeferencing in QGIS. Filtering it to show only buildings that existed at the date of the map. There's also one for Brooklyn only http://bklynr.com/block-by-block-brooklyns-past-and-present/. I've been ordered curtains and T-shirts.
