What I've found so far to get it running:
Specify $HADOOP_HOME in your Debug Configuration > Environment
$HIVE_INSTALL/conf needs to be in the Debug Configuration > Classpath
$HADOOP_HOME/conf needs to be in the Debug Configuration > Classpath
build/metastore/hive_metastore.jar needs to be in the Debug Configuration >
Classpath
(needs to be relatively early in the order... i have it as the 1st entry)
