C159943546 Chapter 15 Will They Associate (with Me) Those That do not Create
but Are Created? Those That Can Bring Them no Victory? (XV/LXVII)

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE MOST MERCIFUL THE MOST COMPASSIONATE

Assalamualaikum w.w.

Allah S.W.T said:

"Those other than Allah, whom you invoke beside Him, do not own the least
power."
(Holy Quran 35:13)

In the Sahih, it is reported that Anas said:
"At the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet was hit and one of his molars was
broken. Despondently, he exclaimed:
'How can a people succeed who hit their prophet?'"
In the following moment, the verse was revealed:
"The matter is not yours to control at all."
(Holy Quran 3:128)

Ibn Umar R.A.A is reported to have once heard of the Prophet of Allah say,
upon raising his head from kneeling (ruku') in the dawn prayer:
"May Allah hear him who praises Him; O Lord, to You is the praise. O Lord,
let Your curse be upon so and so." It was then that Allah revealed the
Qur'anic verse:
"The matter is not yours to control at all."

In a third report, the Prophet had cursed Safwan ibn Umayyah, Suhayl ibn Amr
and al Harith ibn Hisham, whereupon the said verse was revealed.

Abu Hurayrah R.A.A has reported that when the verse was revealed
"And warn your next of kin and clansmen,"
(Holy Quran 26:214)
the Prophet of Allah rose and said the following or like words:
"O people of Quraysh! Save your own souls. My relation to you counts for
nothing in Allah's eye. O Fatimah, my daughter, ask me for any part of my
wealth and I shall give it to you; but in the matter of your own salvation,
my relation to you counts for nothing."

Further Issues

1. Explaination of the two verses.
2. The story of Uhud. (The battle which took place in the third year of the
Hijrah near Mount Uhud outside of Madinah between the Muslims and the
Makkans. Having been defeated in the encounter at Badr the previous year,
the Makkans came prepared to give battle to the Muslims and avange
themselves. The Prophet's arrangement of the archers on the mountain
prevented the strong Makkans cavalry from joining their foot soldiers who
were defeated by a preponderant Muslim army. Thinking the battle over, the
archers descended to the plain and thus enabled the Makkan cavalry to move
and to attack them from behind their lines. The Muslims were defeated and
the Prophet S.A W wounded. However, the Makkans did not pursue their
victory, and withdrew. The Battle of Uhud was a severe blow to Muslim
morale.
3. The submissive prayer of the greatest Prophet and the "amen-s" of the
greatest saints.
4. That the people invoked against were unbelievers.
5. That they were guilty of greater sins than most unbelievers have ever
perpetrated, such as their hitting their prophet, their pursuit to kill him,
their multilation of the dead Muslims who were their near relatives.
6. That all this notwithstanding, Allah sent down the verse, "the matter is
not yours to control at all." (Holy Quran 3:128)
7. After Allah's words "either He forgives or punishes them" (Holy Quran
3:128) were revealed, He has forgiven them and they have believed.
8. Invocation (Qunut) at times of catastrophes.
9. Naming the invoked-against in salat by their own personal names.
10.Invoking the curse of God on a specific person.
11.The Prophet's circumstances at the revelation of the verse "And warn your
close relatives and clansmen." (Holy Quran 26:214)
12.The Prophet's seriousness in the matter, and his doing that which, for
that reason alone, was ascribed to madness. Validity of the interpretation
today.
13.The Prophet's declaration to the close relative and distant fellow:
"My relation to you will count for nothing in Allah's eyes," including even
his daughter Fatimah. Such candid assertion of the truth by the Master of
the Prophets in regard to the Mistress of Womankind, contrasts strongly with
the order of relations of men of power in today's world.
The truth of tawhid and uniqueness of Islam are therefore all the more
glaringly apparent.

Ibn Arabi (Sufi master) said :

My heart has become capable of every form:
It is a pasture for gazelles,
And a monastery for Christian monks,
And a temple for idols,
And the pilgrim's Ka'ba,
And the tablets of the Torah,
And the Book of the Qur'an,
I follow the religion of Love:
Whatever way Love's camel takes,
That is my religion and my faith.
