Assalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Recent reports have been coming in from Chechenya, besieged by the
Russian Army who is set on destroying it an all its inhabitants. Muslims
in Australia must act, one of the possible methods (Allah knows best) is
to write a letter of protest to some Federal MP's. It will also be good
to write some letters to some embassies, UN Officials etc...
Below are some talking points copied and slightly modified from CAIR
(May Allah reward them for their great work). It will be great if anyone
gets a response from any of the officials and sends a copy to a Muslim
media publication, this might encourage other Muslims to do something in
the future.
Following the "talking points" I have a list of contact details for the
"big wigs" in the Australian Federal Parliament which you can contact.
As for the other addresses, if some one has them it will great to pass
them around (use the mailing lists available: Sydney Area Network,
FAMSY, info@iqra etc...)
Note make sure the tone of your letter or conversation is polite, to the
point and always have a return postal address even if sending an email,
this ensures a reply.
==>Since Russia began its most recent attacks on Chechnya, hundreds of
innocent civilians have been killed and almost 200,000 have
been forced from their homes. Many of these refugees are without shelter
and now face hunger and disease.
==>This campaign exposes the hypocrisy of Russian officials who
condemned NATO's actions against Serbian forces in Kosova. Just
as NATO used every means to avoid civilian casualties, Russia seems to
be targeting the entire Chechen population with what amounts
to state terrorism by a rogue nation.
==>For some 200 years, the Chechen people struggled to determine their
own fate, free from the dictates of Russian and Soviet
colonial masters. It is time the world community offered its support for
the freedom and independence of Chechnya.
==>We respectfully call on you to:
1) Condemn Russian attacks on innocent civilians.
2) Pressure Russia to withdraw from Chechnya.
3) Suspend economic ties with Russia
==>These reasonable measures are consistent with your stance on other
local and regional conflicts such as in Kosova and East
Timor. It is always in Australia's interest to help save innocent lives
and end conflict.
==>Australia's Muslim community supports a peaceful resolution to the
conflict in Chechnya that will result in freedom for the
Chechen people. Anything less will inevitably lead to endless conflict
and suffering."
==>There are an estimated 400, 000 Muslims in this country and some 1.2
billion worldwide. Islam is one of the fastest growing
religions in Australia
