Malaysian debts agency to sell off 44 foreclosed properties
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (AFP) - Malaysia's state agency for handling
bad loans said Thursday it
would launch its first sale of foreclosed properties this month,
with 44 properties valued at 122.6
million ringgit (32.3 million dollars) up for grabs.
Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd said in a statement that 42
percent of its non-performing
loans totalling 39.3 billion ringgit was currently secured by more
than 1,100 properties worth
11.8 billion ringgit.
These properties do not include hotels, which on their own amount
to about 1.5 billion ringgit.
Owners of the 44 properties to be put up for open tender November
19 can settle their loans and
reclaim them at any time before then.
Danaharta managing director Azman Yahya told a press conference
that properties not sold in
the open tender would be bought by Danaharta's property arm at the
minimum price.
It might still sell the properties after enhancing their value or
might decide to jointly develop them
with other companies, he said.
The range of property up for sale includes residential assets,
farmland and commercial buildings.
Azman said the tender was open to both locals and foreigners as
long as they satisfy regulations
on foreign investment.
