Chechen President alive and well
(WASHINGTON, DC - 01/24/00) - On January 24, 2000, the
Islamic Supreme Council of America received an email from the
son of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov, Anzor Maskhadov .
The letter from Mr. Maskhadov reads in part:
"Assalamu Aleikum, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and our brothers
and sisters in America.
"The Russia mass media has published false information regarding
the President of Chechen Republic Ichkeria being badly wounded
which made the foreign mass media all over the world to report
contradictory information.
"Therefore, I would like to inform and I assure you that the President
of Chechen Republic Ichkeria is safe and sound. I have personally
spoken with him today on 24 January 2000. He further informed me
on the following: on 23 January 2000 one Russian warplane was
downed, two colonel officers were imprisoned and two hundred
Russian soldiers were killed by the Chechen army during two long
hours of fighting.

Maskhadov Anzor."
ISCA continues to work closely with President Maskhadov to assist
refugees in Ingushetia and in other areas of the Russian Federation.
