Gulf War Syndrome: Culprit Remains a Mystery Six Years Later

The Pentagon denied any wrongdoing but could not explain the mysterious
disappearance.
Another theory suggests that symptoms of Gulf War Syndrome could be
side-effects of experimental medications intentionally distributed to
troops. The anti-nerve gas drug pyridostigmine was given to more than
400,000 military personnel during the conflict to protect them against
possible nerve gas attacks. The drug is considered experimental—it has never
been tested on humans who had been exposed to nerve gas—but the Defense
Department obtained the Food and Drug Administration's permission to
administer it to the troops.
