SUARAM criticises use of ISA on Al-Maunah members

KUALA LUMPUR - Human Rights groups SUARAM has issued a statement opposing the use of the Internal Security Act to detain without trial 15 members of the Al-Maunah cult group. It believes that more will be detained under this law in the next few days. Maintaining that the ISA is a draconian and evil law, SUARAM stressed that those detained had the right to legal counsel and ought to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. It also condemned the killing of the hostages and called for an independent investigation. - SUARAM
